Born in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island, Kenneth Oppel first knew he wanted to write stories around the age of 12. He started off with sci-fi adventures and progressed to sorcery tales of dragons before phasing into humorous stories at age 14. His first published work, Colin’s Fantastic Video Adventure was in 1985 and fulfilled his dream of being heard around the world. Now an award-winning author of numerous books, Kenneth Oppel has inspired children to immerse themselves in reading for many years now.

Kenneth’s humble beginnings took him through University in Toronto where he continued his love for writing with a double major in cinema studies and English. It was here he began his own happy ending, a year after graduation, when he married his wife and started a family of his own. They now reside in Toronto happily with their three children.

We were lucky to have Kenneth at last year’s Telling Tales Festival where he launched his latest novel, Every Hidden Thing. This tale is described as Romeo and Juliet meets Indiana Jones with adventure and romance that you won’t be able to put down. This week is Family Literacy Week and in the spirit of celebrating, we’re giving away a signed copy of Every Hidden Thing! Head over to our Instagram to enter.
