Join us in the Large Meadow and Celebrate 10 Years of Making Hamilton the Best Place to Raise a Child!
Hamilton Best Start is thrilled to celebrate its 10th Anniversary at the Telling Tales Festival.
Visit Hamilton Best Start in the large meadow as we celebrate this special anniversary. The Hamilton Best Start booth will offer a special birthday card arts and crafts activity as well as the opportunity to learn about the Hamilton Children’s Charter of Rights.
Over the past 10 years the Hamilton Best Start Network and its over 50 members from the early learning, education, health and social service organizations have worked together to offer a broad range of information and services to families and children from birth to 12 years of age to ensure children receive the best possible opportunities early in their lives. We have been proud supporters of the Telling Tales Festival since its early days.
And Telling Tales is honoured to partner with Hamilton Best Start and support their Read to Your Baby program. In fact, since 2009 Telling Tales has raised over $20,000 to support this valuable initiative.
Hamilton Best Start’s Early Literacy Hamilton Committee promotes early literacy in our community through the Read to Your Baby program. Read to Your Baby ensures board books are given to children at their 18-month enhanced well-baby visit. The Read to Your Baby program aims to prepare Hamilton’s youngest children to succeed in life, by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together. The parents of 18-month-old children receive a free book and a prescription to read daily. Also included in the book is an invitation to get a library card by visiting a local library. The program is research based and grounded in the Canadian Pediatric Society’s position statement regarding the promotion of literacy in family physician’s office.
