About Family Literacy Day

Family Literacy Day was started by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 to raise awareness of the importance of reading and doing activities together as a family. Their goal is to encourage families to spend just 15 minutes a day having fun and learning together.

There are many ways to encourage literacy at home – tell stories, sing a song, let the kids help follow a recipe, play a game, look for signs while out driving, make a shopping list, or draw a map. For more ideas and printable activities, visit ABC Life Literacy Canada.
