Tween Book Challenge

There is only one month until the Telling Tales Festival and we’re celebrating with a huge book giveaway!

This year we have a special Tween Stage that features talented Canadian authors and illustrators including Scott Chantler , Kevin Sylvester and Mahtab Narsimhan. Many other presenters with a tween focus will be at stages around Westfield including Gillian Chan, Creative Theatre Company, Hamilton Youth Poets, Kenneth Oppel, Shane Peacock, Kevin Sands, Bill Slavin, Chad Solomon, Joel A. Sutherland and Vikki VanSickle.

Plus the Hamilton Public Library is offering special writing workshops throughout the day! Be sure to have a look at our schedule and plan your visit!

The young adult books featured below and on our reading list are great reads for tweens and older readers. These novels offer adventure, history and captivating story lines to mesmerize readers. And here’s your chance to win a new book by one of these talented Canadian presenters!

Meet Bill Slavin

Bill Slavin has illustrated over 100 books for kids, including the award-winning Stanley series, graphic novel trilogy Elephants Never Forget, and best-selling Transformed: How Everyday Things are Made. Join Bill for a fun session that includes a collaborative reading of his new picture book Who Broke the Teapot?! plus a drawing demo where one lucky child will take home an original drawing!

Meet Kevin Sylvester

Join Kevin Sylvester, award winning illustrator, writer and broadcaster for a presentation that’s out of this world! He will talk about his new sci-fi series MiNRS and share amazing cartooning advice.

Meet Vikki VanSickle

Plan to meet Vikki at the Telling Tales Festival this fall. She’ll read from her new picture book If I Had a Gryphon and is even bringing along a magical pet care kit where children are invited to play pet detective before delving into the story. Don’t miss this fun time!
